A Southern Jew Boycotts Hitler's Olympics: The Herman Neugass Story

In the mid-1930s, Tulane University’s Herman Neugass was one of the fastest runners on earth. When a letter came from Avery Brundage, president of the US Olympic Committee, inviting him to try out for the 1936 Olympics, hosted in Adolf Hitler’s Berlin, Herman had big choices to make. One July 1, 2024, our executive director Kenneth Hoffman was in a conversation with Richard Neugass, Herman’s son, about one man’s victories, defeats, and decisions made in the face of world events and personal conscience.
