The Goldring/Woldenberg Institute of Southern Jewish Life is currently hiring new Education Fellows to serve in one of the most unique and innovative programs available in Jewish education today.
Throughout the South, many isolated Jewish communities struggle with no access to proper Jewish education or rabbinic services. These communities face problems quite distinct from those faced in large urban communities. Religious schools are run by an all-volunteer staff consisting of parents who often have little or no formal educational training. With its education program, the ISJL is committed to assisting these parents and helping to ensure that these young people will become life long participants in the Jewish community.
The ISJL’s pilot education program includes Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi as well as Georgia, Florida, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas. The project seeks to infuse Jewish life into these communities by providing educational services and expertise for both children and adults, including the development and implementation of a standard curriculum of Jewish learning. The ISJL holds an annual conference designed to train these volunteer religious school educators and to implement the curriculum.
Fellow(s) will gain tremendous experience in Jewish Communal Services, education and the non-profit sector over the two year fellowship period. Qualifications include: college degree and active involvement in Jewish life or organizations. Salary, expenses and benefits. References required.
